3. Searching for an Entity

Use the Dashboard to find any entity in the system.

Now that we created an entity, let's look at how to use the Dashboard to find them.

Note that entity and instrument searches will take at least an hour after ingestion before they are searchable!

We created the user Entity Name Larry Baker in the previous section with the Entity ID Baker01.

Unit21 automatically generated a numerical ID for Baker called the Unit21 ID; typically a number such as 719170349.

Find an Entity by Name


  1. Log in to your Dashboard.
  2. Go to the Data Explorer:
  3. In the Data Explorer, find the Search Entity in the Search Filter and select User Name.
  4. Enter the name Baker:

  1. Wait for the search to complete. Now we have found all the Bakers in the system. You can select them in the search results and they will appear in the table:

  1. Go ahead and Clear Filter to reset the search.

Find an Entity by Entity ID


  1. In the Data Explorer, find the Search Entity in the Search Filter and select Entity ID.
  2. Enter the Entity ID == Baker01:

Find an Entity by Unit21 ID


  1. In the Data Explorer, find the Search Entity in the Search Filter and select Unit ID.
  2. Enter the Unit ID == 719170349:

Your Unit21 ID might be a little different since this is automatically generated when you create the entity.

Simply enter the Unit21 ID you recorded for your user in Step 2 of the tutorial.

Find an Entity in the Search Bar


  1. From any page in your Dashboard, open your top level search bar:

  1. Here you search for an entity by Entity ID, Unit21 ID, User Name and much more:
